My Lord! Increase me in knowledge

About the Blog

Hello & Peace and Blessing of God be upon You!

This blog is a place to share, read, ponder upon religious, spirtiual, philosophical knowledge. To reflect upon it and improve ourselves in every aspect.

Why the name “readforsoul”? – Because you read to benefit your soul.

Our approach here is to keep it short and simple. We prefer quality over quantity. The objective is to cultivate a habit of reading among people (specially youth) and promote critical thinking.

I believe, If God wills, if we spend only 5 mins per day to learn about religion, in a few months  to years we would find a huge change in our level of knowledge and wisdom. So, this blog is a small step taken for myself and others. I hope and pray, that all keep visiting regularly and keep interacting on this blog.

The importance of gaining knowledge is highly stressed in Islam.I am sure most of you would already know but i am going to bring up some points.

Quran on knowledge
The first Surah revealed to the prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) begins with the word ‘IQRA’, read!!!

Read in the name of your Lord – (al-‘Alaq 96:1)

“And say: My Lord increase me in knowledge.” (Qur’an, Ta-Ha 20:114)

Hadith on seeking knowledge
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim.” – Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 74

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “One who treads a path in search of knowledge has his path to Paradise made easy by God…” – Riyadh us-Saleheen, 245

On deriving benefit from knowledge by acting on it or sharing
The Prophet also said: “Knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a treasure out of which nothing is spent in the cause of God.” – Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 108

In the “Weekly Readings” section, an article or two will be posted, and we would love to see people reading and sharing their views. Please make sure to visit it once or twice a week and share your ideas. If you would like to recommend an article or have any other comments/suggestions, please email at

“My thoughts” section is where i will share my thoughts, experiences from my day to day life. Pay a visit to this section once a while and be prepared to read some crazy stuff. For those who don’t know me, my name is Aamer Saadi, a Muslim living in Toronto, Canada. I am a freelance web/graphic designer who is now training to be a chef. I used to hate reading, but i realized the value and power of knowledge, got more into reading religious stuff and now i can’t believe i am making a blog!.

Have a great day! God Bless you all!
